Gumbo Limbo Bark (Bursera simaruba)

Gumbo Limbo is a tropical tree native to the Caribbean, Central America, Mexico, and South Florida. Often recognized by its distinctive reddish, peeling bark, the tree has been an important part of traditional herbal and cultural practices throughout the region for generations.

Sometimes referred to as the “Tourist Tree” because of its sunburn-colored bark, Gumbo Limbo has long been valued by indigenous and local communities who traditionally prepared the bark and leaves as teas and botanical infusions.
